Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between segments and mirror?
Segments is how many times your drawing repeats around the center — 8 segments means eight copies, each rotated by 45°. Mirror also reflects each copy, as if a mirror ran through the middle of every wedge, which doubles the number of copies and gives the balanced, flower-like look of most traditional mandalas. Turn mirror off for pinwheel designs that swirl in one direction.
How do I make a printable coloring page?
Draw your outlines, then press Coloring page PDF or Coloring page PNG. The tool redraws the design at 2400 pixels square with every line, shape and stamp in solid black on white, and leaves out fills, solid shape colors and the guides, so the page is ready to color by hand. The PDF places it centered on a US Letter or A4 page with half-inch margins.
Why did color in fill the whole background?
The fill spreads until it meets a line, so any gap in an outline lets it leak into the surrounding area. Press Undo, close the gap with the Pen or a slightly thicker Line, and fill again. Tapping on a line itself recolors the connected lines instead of the space around them.
Can I use a stylus on a tablet?
Yes. The canvas uses pointer events, so a mouse, a finger or a stylus all draw. With a pressure-sensitive pen, such as an Apple Pencil or a Wacom stylus, pressing harder makes the line thicker; mouse and touch keep the width you set.
Is my drawing saved or uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded. Your drawing is kept only in the open page, and the PNG and PDF files are created in your browser. Reloading or closing the tab discards it, so download a copy of anything you want to keep.
About this tool
A mandala is a circular design built from a pattern that repeats around a center point, and this mandala maker handles the repetition for you. Whatever you draw in one wedge is copied into every other wedge as you draw it, with anywhere from 4 to 32 segments. With mirror switched on, each wedge is also reflected down its middle, giving the balanced petals and lace-like detail of traditional mandalas; switched off, the copies rotate like a pinwheel.
Beyond the freehand pen, a straight-line tool, and an eraser, there are eleven stamps — petal, teardrop, circle, dot, heart, star, diamond, triangle, flower, leaf and spiral. Stamps can point outwards from the center so they fan out naturally, be outlined or solid, and be sized by dragging as you place them. Dashed guides show the wedges and five concentric rings to help you line up details, and they never appear in a download.
The color-in tool works like a paint bucket with symmetry: tap inside a closed shape and the same area in every segment fills at once, with soft edges absorbed so no pale halo is left along the lines. Every action can be undone and redone, and Clear can be taken back with Redo.
When you are finished, download the colored mandala as a 2400-pixel PNG, or turn it into a printable coloring page: all outlines are redrawn in solid black on white, fills are left out, and the page is saved as a PNG or a PDF sized for US Letter or A4. Everything happens in your browser — nothing you draw is uploaded.
