About these tools
Every image format is a trade. JPG is universal and small but lossy and has no transparency. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency but produces very large photographs. WebP does most of what both do at a smaller size, and is rendered natively by every current browser but still refused by some desktop software.

Questions people ask
Which format should I convert to?
JPG for photographs you are sending or uploading — it is the smallest widely accepted format. PNG for screenshots, logos and anything that needs a transparent background or will be edited again. WebP for images on your own website, where every current browser shows it and it is usually the smallest of the three.
Does converting to PNG improve a JPG's quality?
No. PNG stores the image exactly as it is, including any blockiness the JPG compression already introduced; it stops further loss but cannot undo it. Expect the PNG to be considerably larger.
What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are flattened onto white. If you need to keep a transparent background, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
