Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes saved, and will they still be there tomorrow?
Every note is kept in your browser’s local storage for this site, so reopening the page in the same browser on the same device brings them all back, including the note you had open. They are not synced to other devices or browsers, and clearing your browsing data or using a private window that you then close deletes them — download anything important as a .txt file.
What happens if I delete a note by mistake?
An Undo button appears at the bottom of the screen for 10 seconds after you press Delete. Undo puts the note back exactly as it was, with its title and text. After those 10 seconds, or once you delete another note, the deleted note is gone for good.
How much can I store?
Browsers give each website a few megabytes of local storage — roughly 5 MB in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari — which is a few million characters shared across all your notes. If a save fails because that space is full, the status turns red and a warning explains that the latest changes exist only in the open tab. Download the note or delete ones you no longer need, and saving resumes on its own.
Does find and replace support regular expressions?
No — it searches for the exact text you type, so characters like . * or $ are matched literally, both in the search and in the replacement. Match case is off by default. Matches are highlighted in the note, the current one in orange, and Replace all can be undone with the Undo link that appears under the search fields until you type in the note again.
Can I use it offline or in two tabs at once?
Once the page has loaded, nothing it does needs a connection, so you can keep writing if your Wi-Fi drops. If the notepad is open in two tabs, a note saved in one appears in the other within a second; when both change the same note, the most recent edit wins.
About this tool
This online notepad is a plain-text scratchpad that remembers what you write. There is no account and no sign-in: notes are written to the browser’s local storage half a second after you stop typing, and again when you switch tabs or close the window, so refreshing or closing the tab loses nothing. The note list shows every note with the time it was last edited, newest first, and the counter under the text shows words, characters and lines for the open note.
Notes can come in and go out as ordinary .txt files. Open .txt accepts several files at once — .txt, .md, .csv, .log and .json up to 5 MB each — and turns each into its own note named after the file; a file that isn’t plain text, such as a Word document, is rejected with a message rather than loaded as gibberish. Download .txt saves the open note as a UTF-8 text file named after its title, which you can open in Notepad, TextEdit or any editor.
Find & replace is built for cleaning up pasted text: search for a phrase, step through matches with the arrow buttons or Enter and Shift+Enter, and replace them one at a time or all at once. Full screen hides the note list, toolbar and the rest of the site, leaving a centered column of text for focused writing; on phones and tablets that can’t enter true full screen, it still fills the whole window.
Because notes live in one browser on one device, treat this as a quick notepad rather than a long-term archive. It is ideal for drafting a message before you paste it somewhere, keeping a running to-do list, collecting links and snippets during research, or jotting down meeting notes — and the Download button is always one click away when something should outlive your browser data.
