Is it really free and unlimited?
Yes. There are no credits, no sign-up and no watermark, and you can convert as many photos as you like. The tracing runs in your browser on your own device, so the photo is never uploaded and there is no server cost that would need a limit.
Is this an AI coloring page generator?
No. It uses classic image processing, not AI. It finds the places where brightness or color changes sharply — the edges in the photo — and draws them as black lines on white. It does not redraw, restyle or invent anything, so the result follows your photo faithfully, but it also cannot tidy up a cluttered scene the way an AI illustrator would.
Which photos make the best coloring pages?
Clear, sharp photos of one main subject against a plain or blurred background: a pet on a sofa, a flower, a toy, a car, a portrait against a wall. Busy backgrounds, grass, leaves, fur and patterned clothes all contain many edges and turn into dense lines. If the page comes out too busy, choose the Simple style, lower Detail or raise Clean-up — or crop the photo to the subject first.
What do the Detail, Line thickness and Clean-up sliders do?
Detail sets how small and how faint an edge can be and still become a line: at 1–3 only the big outlines survive, at 8–10 small features and texture appear too. Line thickness makes every line bolder or thinner without moving it — thick lines are easier for small children to color inside. Clean-up removes short marks and specks below a size you choose, which clears away noise and texture while keeping long outlines.
How big is the download, and how does the PDF print?
The coloring page is traced at up to 1600 pixels on the photo’s long side (smaller photos keep their own size), with pure black lines on a pure white background. The PDF holds one page in US Letter or A4, turned to landscape automatically for wide photos, with the image centered and scaled to fit inside the margin you pick. With normal margins that prints at about 160–215 dots per inch, depending on the photo’s shape — plenty for crisp coloring lines.
About this tool
This converter turns a photograph into a coloring page: the outlines of the shapes in the picture become black lines, and everything else becomes white paper ready for crayons, pencils or markers. It works by tracing edges, not by drawing. The photo is scaled to at most 1600 pixels on its long side, turned into brightness and two color-difference channels, smoothed with a median filter to remove grain, and then run through a difference-of-Gaussians edge detector, which marks one line along each place where the picture changes sharply — including boundaries between two colors of similar brightness, like a red bird against green leaves. The lines are thresholded to pure black and white, small specks are removed, and the remaining lines are thickened with a round brush. Because it follows the photo exactly, a clean photo gives a clean page and a cluttered photo gives a cluttered one.
The three styles are starting points. Simple keeps only strong outlines, drawn thick, and removes short marks — good for toddlers and preschoolers. Balanced keeps the main shapes plus some inner detail. Detailed keeps fine lines and texture for older children and adults who enjoy intricate pages. After picking a style, any slider can be moved; the preview redraws as you drag.
