Frequently asked questions
- Is my photo uploaded to a server?
- No. The image is opened and filtered entirely in your browser using the canvas element, and the download is generated on your device. Nothing is transmitted anywhere, so the tool also works offline once the page has loaded.
- Does applying a filter reduce the image quality?
- The filter is rendered at the full original resolution of your photo, so no pixels are lost. JPEG files are re-encoded at high quality when you download, which is visually lossless for typical photos, and PNG files are saved as PNG to keep transparency.
- Which filter makes a photo look old or vintage?
- Sepia gives the classic brown-toned look of early photographs, while Vintage combines faded contrast with a warm tint for a 1970s film feel. Faded is a subtler option that simply lifts the shadows for a soft, matte look. Try all three on the same photo — the thumbnails make the differences easy to compare.
- What image formats can I upload?
- JPEG, PNG and WebP files all work, which covers photos from phones, cameras and screenshots. PNG images keep their transparency through the filter and download, so filtered logos and cutouts stay transparent. Very large images may take a moment to process since everything runs on your own device.
- Can I adjust the strength of a filter?
- Not in this tool — each preset uses a fixed combination of adjustments such as saturation, contrast and color tint, tuned to look natural on most photos. If you need fine-grained control, apply the closest preset here and refine the result in a photo editor.

Each filter is a fixed recipe of adjustments — saturation, contrast, brightness and a color tint — applied through the HTML canvas element on your own device. The photo is never uploaded: filtering, previewing and the final download all happen client-side, which keeps private pictures private and means the tool keeps working offline once loaded. The output is rendered at the photo’s original resolution, so a 12-megapixel image comes back as a 12-megapixel image.
Filters are the fastest way to give a photo a deliberate mood. Grayscale and High contrast suit portraits and architecture; Sepia and Vintage evoke age for family photos and printed keepsakes; Cool and Warm correct or exaggerate the color temperature of a scene, turning a flat overcast shot warmer or a sunset moodier. Faded produces the soft matte look common on social feeds, and Invert is handy for checking negatives or creating graphic effects.
A few tips: start from the best original you have, because filters amplify what is already there — a sharp, well-exposed photo takes every filter better than a dim one. If you plan to crop or resize, do that first and filter the final framing. And when a preset feels almost right but too strong, download it and blend it with the original at reduced opacity in any editor for a half-strength version.
