Word Search Generator

The grid only holds the letters A to Z. Spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and digits are removed and accents are dropped, so “ice cream” is hidden as ICECREAM, “café” as CAFE and “Straße” as STRASSE. The word bank still shows each entry as you typed it, in capitals. Words written entirely in another alphabet, such as Greek or Cyrillic, are skipped, and the tool lists every entry it changed or skipped under the word box.

Easy uses a 10×10 grid with words running left-to-right and top-to-bottom only. Medium uses 15×15 and adds diagonals. Hard uses 20×20, allows all eight directions including backwards, places words so they cross each other more often, and draws the filler letters from your own words, so the grid is full of near-misses. Changing any setting afterwards switches to custom settings.

Either it is longer than the grid is wide, or there was no position left where it fits without clashing with the words already placed. The generator places the longest words first and tries up to 25 fresh layouts before giving up, and it never adds a word to the word bank unless it is really in the grid. A bigger grid, more directions or a shorter list fixes it.

The generator checks every listed word in all eight directions after filling the grid and re-rolls random filler letters that spell a second copy by accident. A duplicate can still happen when two placed words cross to form another word on your list, or when a short word sits inside a longer one, like CAT in CATALOG. In both cases the tool tells you, and Regenerate usually finds a clean layout.

The PDF uses the standard Helvetica font built into every PDF reader, which covers only Western European characters. Letters such as ş or ł are simplified in the title and word bank, and Greek, Cyrillic, Chinese or emoji are left out. The Print button uses your browser’s fonts, so it keeps them.
