Is the Christmas card maker free, and is my photo uploaded?
It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Everything happens in your browser: your photo is read and drawn on your device and never sent anywhere, and the PNG and PDF files are built locally too.
How do I print and fold the card?
The PDF has two landscape pages: the outside (back and front) and the inside (a blank left page and your message on the right). Print both on one sheet, double-sided, with “Flip on short edge” and at 100% (“Actual size”), then fold in half with the front facing out. Without a duplex printer, print page 1, put the sheet back in the tray and print page 2 on the other side — test the direction on plain paper first.
Which card sizes can I print?
Folded A5 uses a whole A4 sheet, so each half is 148.5 × 210 mm and fits a C5 envelope. Folded 5×7 on US Letter centres a 10 × 7 inch card on the sheet with crop marks and fold marks, so you trim it and get a 5 × 7 inch card for an A7 envelope. The 10 × 7 in option makes pages exactly that size, for card stock that is already cut. Panels are drawn at 300 dpi.
How does the e-card link work, and why isn’t my photo in it?
The link stores the card itself — design, greeting, message, fonts, colours and stickers — compressed into the part of the address after the #, which browsers don’t send to web servers. Opening it redraws the card and plays an animation: the envelope opens, the card slides out, and a tap flips it over to the message. A photo is far too large to fit in a link, so it is left out and the e-card shows the design without it; send the PNG if the photo matters.
Can I use my own fonts or colours?
You can pick any colour for the greeting and the message with the colour picker. The nine fonts are fixed: eight handwriting and display fonts under the SIL Open Font License — Caveat, Kalam, Indie Flower, Shadows Into Light, Gochi Hand, Rubik Bubbles, Bungee and Sedgwick Ave — and a classic serif (Georgia, or your system’s nearest match). Letters a font doesn’t include fall back to your browser’s default font.
Who made the designs and stickers — can I use the cards commercially?
All eight designs and twelve stickers were drawn for ZumaTools and are generated in your browser. The cards you make are yours to print, post and share, whether they go to family, friends or customers. Your own photo remains yours; just make sure you have the right to use any photo you add.
About this tool
A homemade Christmas card says more than a shop-bought one, and it doesn’t have to take an evening with glue and glitter. This Christmas card maker gives you eight original designs to start from: a snowy night with a lit-up cottage, a holly wreath with a red bow, hanging gold and red baubles on deep green, a modern geometric tree, candy stripes with peppermint corners, kraft paper with white snowflakes, a starry sky with a shining star, and a pine garland over red gingham. Every design has a frame for a family photo — an arch, a circle, a polaroid or a gold-edged rectangle — so a snapshot from this year becomes the centrepiece.
The greeting sits on the front in the font of your choice, from relaxed handwriting to bold bubble letters, and you can drag it anywhere, resize it and recolour it. Twelve stickers — holly, baubles, a star, a snowflake, a gingerbread cookie, a bell, a candy cane, a mitten, a present, a little tree and a candle — can be scattered, rotated and layered. Inside, your message and sign-off get their own font and colour, and long messages shrink to fit so nothing runs off the page.
For paper cards, the PDF is laid out to fold: the back and front print on one side of the sheet and the inside on the other, at 300 dpi so photos and lettering stay sharp. Choose a folded A5 card on A4, a 5 × 7 inch card on US Letter with crop and fold marks, or 10 × 7 inch pages for pre-cut card stock. The PNG downloads give you the front and the inside at 1500 × 2100 pixels for social media, messaging apps or a photo print service.
To send a card instantly, make an e-card link. The design and words travel inside the link, so there is no account, no upload and nothing stored on a server. Whoever opens it sees a red envelope with a gold seal on a snowy background; it opens, the card slides out, and a tap turns it over to read your message. If their device asks for reduced motion, the envelope is skipped and a button switches between the front and the inside without animation. Everything, from the artwork to the PDF, is made in your browser.
