Frequently asked questions
How is the glitter made?
It is generated, not a photo texture. The letters are divided into tiny square flakes, from 1 to 8 pixels across, and each flake gets its own shade between the dark, mid and light tones of the colour, plus its own moment to flash. When a flake's moment comes round it brightens towards white and fades again, like a real flake catching the light, and four-pointed star glints appear and fade on top. Reshuffle glitter picks a new random pattern.
Does the GIF loop smoothly?
Yes. Every flake flashes exactly once or twice per loop and every star glint appears once per loop, so the last frame leads straight back into the first with no jump. More frames give smoother twinkling; 12 frames at 10 frames per second is a 1.2-second loop, which suits most glitter GIFs. The preview shows the same frames as the download.
Can I make glitter text with a transparent background?
Yes — tick Transparent. The PNG then has real, smooth transparency. GIF transparency is on or off per pixel, so the soft glow is dropped at the edges and anti-aliased edges get a slightly hard rim; for the smoothest GIF, pick a background colour that matches the page or post it will go on, or turn the glow off.
Where can I use glitter text?
Animated GIFs play in most chat apps, forums, email, blogs and websites, and they are the classic way to add a sparkly name or greeting to a profile page, a birthday message or a Discord or Slack post. Instagram and TikTok posts do not play GIF files as they are; for those, use the PNG, or turn the GIF into a video with a separate converter.
How big will the GIF be?
It depends mostly on the image size and number of frames, because glitter changes almost every pixel on every frame and does not compress as well as flat colour. A single word at the default 120 px size with 12 frames is typically a few hundred kilobytes. To make it smaller, lower Size or Frames, raise Glitter grain (bigger flakes compress better), or use a solid background.
Which fonts and characters can I use?
Rubik Bubbles, Bungee and Sedgwick Ave Display are bundled web fonts released under the SIL Open Font License and cover English and Western European letters. Sans Black and Script use fonts already on your device, so they also work for other alphabets your system supports. Chunky fonts show the most glitter; thin scripts show less because there are fewer pixels to sparkle.
About this tool
This glitter text generator paints your words with animated, procedurally generated glitter. Instead of a fixed sparkle image, every letter is covered in small flakes with their own tone and timing, so the text shimmers the way glitter does as it turns in the light. Star glints pop in and fade across the letters, a soft glow lifts the text off the background, and an optional outline keeps it readable on busy backgrounds.
There are nine built-in glitter colours — gold, silver, pink, rose gold, purple, blue, green, red and rainbow — and a Custom option that builds a dark, mid and light glitter from any colour you pick. Rainbow gives every flake a different hue for a holographic look. Glitter grain sets the flake size: 1–2 pixels looks like fine powder, 5–8 pixels like chunky sequins. Sparkle controls how sharp the flashes are, and Star glints sets how many stars appear per loop, from 0 to 20.
The animation is built to loop cleanly. You choose 4 to 30 frames and 2 to 20 frames per second, and every flake flashes a whole number of times per loop, so the GIF repeats without a visible seam. Each frame is encoded with up to 256 colours in your browser. The PNG download saves the frame currently on screen, with a transparent background if you choose — ideal for printed cards, thumbnails and designs where animation is not needed.
Glitter text is a staple of birthday wishes, names on profile pages, early-web nostalgia and cute stickers. For a birthday card, try pink or gold glitter in Rubik Bubbles with a white outline; for a retro homepage look, rainbow glitter in Sans Black on black. Nothing is uploaded: the text, texture and GIF are all generated on your device.
