Why is there no sound in my recording?
Sound from screen sharing depends on the browser and on what you share. Chrome and Edge can capture the audio of a browser tab on every desktop system, and the audio of the whole screen on Windows and ChromeOS only — sharing a single window never includes sound. The share dialog has an audio switch that must be on. Firefox and Safari do not capture any audio from screen sharing, so tick “Record my microphone” if you want at least your voice. If audio was requested but not shared, the page says so as soon as recording begins.
Can I record my screen on an iPhone or Android phone here?
No. Mobile browsers on iOS, iPadOS and Android do not give websites access to the screen, so this page shows a message instead of the recorder. Both systems have a recorder built in: on iPhone and iPad, add Screen Recording to Control Center; on Android, open Quick Settings and tap Screen record.
Should I choose WebM or MP4?
WebM is offered by every browser that can record here and plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and VLC, but QuickTime on a Mac and some editors will not open it. MP4 (H.264) opens almost everywhere, including QuickTime, iPhone and most video editors; it appears in the format list only when your browser can record it, which recent Chrome, Edge and Safari can. The list only shows formats your browser actually supports.
How big will the file be, and is there a time limit?
Standard quality targets about 2.5 Mbit/s of video, which works out to roughly 19 MB per minute at most; High targets about 8 Mbit/s, roughly 60 MB per minute. A mostly still screen such as slides or a document often comes out much smaller, and the running size is shown while you record. There is no fixed time limit, but the recording is held in your computer’s memory until you download it, so for recordings longer than an hour or so, Standard quality is the safer choice.
Why won’t my macOS browser let me pick a screen?
macOS requires a separate permission for screen capture. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on older versions), turn on your browser, then quit and reopen it. Until that is done, the share dialog either shows no screens or the capture is refused, and this page tells you the system blocked it.
About this tool
This screen recorder uses the screen-capture and MediaRecorder features built into desktop browsers, so there is nothing to install and no account to create. You choose what to share in the browser’s own dialog — the entire screen, one application window or a single browser tab — and the video is encoded on your computer as it is captured. A live preview shows exactly what is being recorded, the timer and running file size update as you go, and the tab title shows the elapsed time, so you can keep an eye on the recording while you work in another window.
Audio comes from two optional sources. Tab or system audio is whatever the shared tab or screen is playing, which is how you record a video call, a presentation with sound or a browser game. The microphone adds your voice for tutorials and walkthroughs. When both are enabled they are mixed into a single audio track, so the file plays correctly in any player. If you use speakers rather than headphones, your microphone will also pick up the tab’s sound, so headphones give a cleaner result.
Browsers write WebM recordings as a live stream without a total duration, which is why many recordings made this way cannot be scrubbed in a video player. This page adds the duration to the WebM file before you download it, so the preview and most players show a normal seek bar. MP4 is available where the browser supports recording it and is the better choice if the video is headed for QuickTime, an iPhone or a video editor.
The countdown gives you a few seconds to switch to the right window after choosing what to share, and pausing keeps sections you do not want out of the file without creating separate clips. If you close the shared window or press the browser’s “Stop sharing” button, the recording stops and is saved automatically rather than lost. The page also asks for confirmation before you close it while recording or with a recording that has not been downloaded, because nothing is stored anywhere except in this tab.
