How does the name and birthday version work?
Your first name, birth month and birth day are combined and turned into a number, which picks each part of the name from the word lists. Capital letters, extra spaces and accents are ignored, so José and jose give the same result, and the same name and birthday always give the same six names — ask a friend to try yours and they’ll get the same answer. Change the day by one and you will almost always get six new names.
Where do the names come from?
From original word lists written for this page — 428 words and name parts in all, from witch surnames built out of cauldrons, nettles and wormwood to vampire houses, haunted rooms for ghosts and made-up monster names. Famous characters from films, TV, books and games are left out on purpose, and a blocklist stops combinations that would spell one, so each name is fresh.
Are the names suitable for kids?
Yes. The lists are spooky rather than gory — zombies shuffle and groan, monsters are lumpy, slimy or sniffly, and ghosts haunt attics and belfries. There is no swearing or violence, and parts that repeat each other, such as Brew and brew, are never joined, so the names read cleanly for classrooms and family parties.
How many different names can it make?
About 138,000 in total: over 77,000 vampire names, over 24,000 witch names, and around 8,000 to 11,000 each for ghosts, zombies, werewolves and monsters. A batch never repeats a name, and the count above the Generate button shows the exact number for the creature you picked.
What does the share card look like?
It is a 1200 × 630 pixel PNG — the shape social networks use for link previews — with a moonlit sky, hills and bats, “My witch name is” (or vampire, ghost and so on) and your name in large lettering. Each creature has its own colours. On phones the card goes straight to the share sheet where supported; elsewhere it downloads.
Is anything I type saved or sent anywhere?
No. Names are made in your browser: random picks use the Web Crypto API, the birthday version is a fixed calculation, and the card is drawn on your device. Your name and birthday are not stored, and nothing is sent to a server.

This spooky name generator makes Halloween names for six creatures. Witch names pair an old-fashioned first name with a brewed-up surname, like Morwenna Hexwick. Vampires get a title and a noble house, like Countess Valentina Ashheart. Ghosts are named for how they haunt and where, like Weeping Jasper of the Graveyard Gate. Zombies shamble with names like Doris Mudshuffle, werewolves prowl as Ragna Wildgrowl, and monsters are introduced properly: Lumpkin the Stinky Moss Ogre.
Two ways to play. Random draws a batch of 1, 5 or 10 names for the creature you choose, never repeating a name within a batch. From your name & birthday gives every visitor a fixed set of six names — one for each creature — from their first name and the month and day they were born, the way name charts do at Halloween, so friends and classmates can compare theirs.
