Frequently asked questions
Will the corners really be transparent?
Yes. The result is a PNG with an alpha channel: everything outside the circle is fully transparent, and the edge is anti-aliased so it stays smooth. Place it on any coloured background, slide or web page and no white square will show around it.
What does the background colour option do?
It fills the inside of the circle behind the image. That matters in two cases: a PNG or logo with a transparent background, which would otherwise stay see-through inside the circle, and zooming out further than the image covers, which leaves empty space inside the circle. The corners outside the circle stay transparent either way.
Which output size should I pick?
1080 px suits most profile pictures and social media uploads. 400 px is plenty for email signatures, forum avatars and team pages, and gives a much smaller file. 800 px sits in between. Full detail exports the circle at the resolution your photo actually has in that area, up to 4096 px — use it for print or further editing. If a preset is larger than the detail available, the tool tells you the image is being enlarged.
How is this different from Round Image Corners?
Round Image Corners keeps the whole picture and softens its corners, or clips it to an ellipse. This tool always produces a perfect circle from a square area you choose: you drag and zoom to decide which part of the photo goes inside, which is what you need for avatars and profile photos taken from a larger image.
Can I use the ring as a frame for my profile picture?
Yes. The border ring is drawn on the outer edge of the circle in any colour, from a thin outline up to a thick band, and is saved as part of the PNG. For gradient rings, badges or curved text around the photo, use the Profile Picture Frame tool.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Positioning, cropping and PNG encoding all run in your browser using the canvas element. The file never leaves your device, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
About this tool
This tool crops any image to a circle and saves it as a PNG with transparent corners. Instead of taking the centre of the picture automatically, it lets you frame the shot yourself: drag the photo inside the circle, zoom in on a face or product with the slider, the mouse wheel or a two-finger pinch, and see exactly what will be kept. The rest of the image stays visible but dimmed around the circle, so you always know what you're cutting away.
You can add a border ring in any colour, from a thin outline to a thick band, drawn on the outer edge of the circle so the output size stays the same. A background colour can fill the inside of the circle behind the image — useful for logos with transparent backgrounds or when you zoom out to fit a whole wide picture into the circle. The corners outside the circle are always transparent.
Choose the output size to match where the image is going: 400 px for email signatures, forum avatars and team pages; 800 or 1080 px for social profile photos; or full detail to export the circle at the resolution your photo actually has there, up to 4096 px. The preview shows how many source pixels the circle covers, so you can see when a size would enlarge a small image.

The image is drawn on an HTML canvas, clipped to a circular path and encoded as a PNG in your browser — nothing is uploaded, so private photos and unreleased artwork stay private.
