Countdown Timer

Pick a target date and time to see a live countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds.

Set a target date and time to start the countdown.

The countdown runs while this tab is open. Closing or reloading the page resets it.

How it works

  1. Enter the target date and time, or use the New Year preset for an instant countdown.
  2. Optionally type a title such as “Wedding” or “Product launch” to label the countdown.
  3. Watch the days, hours, minutes and seconds update live every second until the moment arrives.

Frequently asked questions

How does the countdown timer calculate the remaining time?
It subtracts the current time reported by your device’s clock from the target moment you set, then splits the difference into days, hours, minutes and seconds. The display refreshes every second, so what you see is always the true remaining time rather than a decrementing counter that can drift.
Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?
No. The timer runs only while the page is open, and closing or reloading the page resets the inputs. Because the remaining time is recalculated from your clock on every tick, you can reopen the page later, enter the same target, and the countdown will be exactly right.
Is the countdown accurate across time zones?
The target you enter is interpreted in your device’s local time zone, which is what you want for local events like a birthday or an exam. For an event in another time zone, convert the moment to your local time first and enter that instead.
Can I use this countdown timer for New Year or a specific holiday?
Yes. The New Year preset fills in January 1 of the coming year at midnight with one click. For any other holiday, birthday, wedding or deadline, simply pick the date and time yourself — the countdown works with any future moment, years ahead if needed.
Is any of my data sent to a server?
No. The page runs entirely in your browser: the target date, the title you type and the ticking countdown never leave your device. There is no account, no cookie-based tracking of your event, and nothing to delete afterwards.

About this tool

This countdown timer shows exactly how long remains until any date and time you choose — an exam, a wedding, a product launch, a flight, or the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Enter the target moment, add an optional title so the page reads like a small event board, and the remaining time appears immediately as days, hours, minutes and seconds, ticking down once per second.

Everything happens client-side in your browser. On each tick the tool reads your device’s clock, subtracts it from the target timestamp, and re-derives the four numbers from scratch. That approach means the countdown cannot drift the way a naive decrementing counter can: even if your browser throttles background tabs, the display snaps back to the correct value the instant the tab becomes active again. Nothing is transmitted anywhere — the date, the title and the countdown itself exist only on your machine, and reloading the page clears them.

Typical uses go beyond New Year. Students count down to exam start times, teams track release deadlines during standups on a shared screen, streamers display time-to-showtime, and families watch the days shrink before a holiday trip. Because the target is interpreted in your local time zone, local events need no conversion; for a moment defined elsewhere — a keynote in another country, a game server reset in UTC — convert it to your local time first and enter that.

A few practical tips: leave the tab open on a second monitor or a propped-up phone to use it as an ambient display, and note that the timer resets when the page closes, so bookmark the page and re-enter the target if you need it again tomorrow. When the moment arrives the countdown stops at zero and the page tells you the time is up.
