Frequently asked questions
- Does this reduce quality or make the text fuzzy?
- No. The page content is re-drawn as vector artwork at the new scale rather than converted to an image, so text stays selectable and searchable and lines stay crisp at any zoom. Photos inside the page keep their original pixels and are simply displayed at a different size.
- What is the difference between Fit and Fill?
- Fit scales each page until it sits entirely inside the new sheet, so nothing is lost — but because A4 and Letter are different shapes, you get thin white margins on two sides. Fill scales until the page covers the sheet completely and crops the overflow evenly from the edges. Fit is the safe default; use Fill only when you know the margins are empty.
- Why is A4 not exactly the same shape as US Letter?
- They come from different systems. A4 is 210 × 297 mm, a ratio of about 1:1.414, while US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches, about 1:1.294. Letter is wider and shorter. That mismatch is why converting between them always involves either a small margin or a small crop — no scale factor makes one become the other exactly.
- Will mixed page sizes in one document be unified?
- Yes. Every page is placed onto the size you choose, so a file that mixes A4, Letter and the odd landscape scan comes out consistent. Leaving orientation on Match each page keeps landscape pages landscape while still standardising their dimensions, which is usually what you want.
- Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
- No. Reading the file, rescaling the pages and building the new PDF all happen inside your browser, and the download comes from your own device. Your original file on disk is left untouched.
About this tool
PDF pages carry their own physical dimensions, and mismatched ones cause real problems: a printer that scales unpredictably, a print shop that rejects the file, a submission portal that demands A4, or a document that mixes sizes because it was assembled from several sources. This tool re-lays every page onto the size you choose — A4, US Letter, Legal, Tabloid, A3 or A5 — and hands back a consistent document.
The rescaling is done as vector work, not by rendering pages to images. That distinction matters: many tools that change page size flatten everything to a bitmap, which makes text blurry at print resolution, kills text selection and search, and inflates file size. Here the original page is embedded and drawn at a new scale, so text remains text, vector lines stay sharp at any zoom, and photographs keep the pixels they always had.
Fit and Fill exist because A4 and Letter are genuinely different shapes — A4 is narrower and taller. Fit guarantees nothing is cut off and accepts small white margins on two edges, which is the right choice for contracts, forms and anything with content near the edge. Fill removes the margins by scaling up and cropping evenly, which looks cleaner for image-heavy pages but will shave content off a page whose margins are not actually empty. When in doubt, use Fit and check the result.
Pages that a scanner rotated ninety degrees are handled correctly, because each page’s own rotation is read before its dimensions are measured — without that step a sideways page ends up scaled against the wrong axis and lands badly on the sheet. Everything runs locally in your browser, so the document is never uploaded and your original stays exactly as it was.
