Frequently asked questions

How many pay days are there in 2027?

Weekly: 52 or 53, depending on the weekday — 2027 starts and ends on a Friday, so a Friday payroll has 53 Fridays to fall on. Biweekly: 26 for most employers, but a Friday cycle that includes January 1 would have 27 dates in the year; because January 1 is New Year’s Day, that payday usually moves back to Thursday, December 31, 2026, leaving 26 in 2027. Semi-monthly: always 24. Monthly: 12.

What happens when payday falls on a weekend or holiday?

Most employers pay on the business day before, so the money arrives before the weekend or holiday rather than after it. That is a common practice, not a federal rule: federal law doesn’t set pay dates, and state pay-frequency laws and your employer’s own policy decide. Some payrolls pay the business day after instead; the calendar can do either, or leave dates unmoved.

Which holidays count as bank holidays?

For US calendars, the Federal Reserve holiday schedule, because it decides when direct deposits can settle. The Federal Reserve closes on the 11 federal holidays and on the Monday after a holiday that falls on a Sunday, but stays open on the Friday before a holiday that falls on a Saturday. So in 2027 Friday, June 18 and Friday, December 24 are normal banking days even though federal offices are closed, while Monday, July 5 is not. For UK, Canadian or Australian calendars the public holidays’ days off are used.

Is biweekly the same as semi-monthly?

No. Biweekly means every two weeks on the same weekday — 26 pay days a year (occasionally 27), and two months each year have three pay days. Semi-monthly means twice a month on fixed dates such as the 15th and the last day — always 24 pay days, each for a slightly different number of working days, and the weekday changes from one payday to the next.

Can I share a calendar with our pay schedule already set?

Yes. Add settings to the address, for example ?pay=biweekly&payday=2027-01-08 or ?pay=semimonthly&semi=1-15. Other options: pay=weekly, pay=monthly with payon=last, 1 or 15, and adjust=before, after or none. They combine with the other calendar settings such as layout=monthly or region=uk.

About this tool

A payroll calendar is the one page everyone in a small business asks for in January: when the next payroll is due, which months have three biweekly paydays, and which pay dates collide with a holiday. This tool draws it for 2027 from your actual schedule. Pay days are outlined on the calendar and listed underneath with a number, and any date that had to move is starred, with the original date and the reason shown under the preview.

Biweekly Fridays starting January 8, 2027 (26 pay days): Jan 8, Jan 22, Feb 5, Feb 19, Mar 5, Mar 19, Apr 2, Apr 16, Apr 30, May 14, May 28, Jun 11, Jun 25, Jul 9, Jul 23, Aug 6, Aug 20, Sep 3, Sep 17, Oct 1, Oct 15, Oct 29, Nov 12, Nov 26, Dec 10, Dec 24. April and October have three pay days, which matters for monthly budgets and for deductions taken twice a month.

Biweekly Fridays starting January 15, 2027, the other Friday cycle (26 pay days): Jan 15, Jan 29, Feb 12, Feb 26, Mar 12, Mar 26, Apr 9, Apr 23, May 7, May 21, Jun 4, Jun 18, Jul 2, Jul 16, Jul 30, Aug 13, Aug 27, Sep 10, Sep 24, Oct 8, Oct 22, Nov 5, Nov 19, Dec 3, Dec 17, Dec 31. The cycle’s January 1 payday is New Year’s Day, so with the business-day-before rule it moves to December 31, 2026. July and December have three pay days.

Semi-monthly on the 15th and the last day, moved to the business day before: Sun Jan 31 → Fri Jan 29; Mon Feb 15 → Fri Feb 12; Sun Feb 28 → Fri Feb 26; Sat May 15 → Fri May 14; Mon May 31 → Fri May 28; Sat Jul 31 → Fri Jul 30; Sun Aug 15 → Fri Aug 13; Sun Oct 31 → Fri Oct 29. Semi-monthly on the 1st and 15th: Mon Feb 15 → Fri Feb 12; Sat May 1 → Fri Apr 30; Sat May 15 → Fri May 14; Sun Aug 1 → Fri Jul 30; Sun Aug 15 → Fri Aug 13; Sat Jan 1, 2028 → Fri Dec 31.

The holidays that move a US payday follow the Federal Reserve holiday schedule, and the calendar can also show the federal holidays themselves, UK bank holidays, Canadian or Australian holidays, ISO week numbers and notes lines. Everything is calculated and drawn in your browser — no payroll data is uploaded, and the PDF is plain vector text you can print or save.
