If Character.AI isn’t working for you

When the live checks above look normal, the problem is usually on your side or limited to one feature. These are the fixes that help most often with Character.AI:

  1. There’s no public status page

    Character.AI doesn’t run a working public status page. Its help center says to check its community channels for news on outages, scheduled maintenance and site status — which is why reachability checks and user reports matter most for this service.

  2. The Waiting Room is not an outage

    When traffic is high, Character.AI can put you in a Waiting Room to keep responses fast. The help center says the wait is usually a minute or two, though it can be longer during sudden spikes. Being in the Waiting Room means the service is up but busy.

  3. Login problems: there are no passwords

    Character.AI is passwordless: you sign in with Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, or an emailed verification link. Older logins such as email-and-password no longer work, and there’s no password to reset.

  4. Login email not arriving

    Check the address for typos, then look in your spam or junk folder and mark the email as not spam. Make sure your inbox isn’t full, and if your email provider seems to block it, try a different address.

  5. Bad replies vs a real outage

    Short, cut-off or odd replies are often a single bad response — swiping to regenerate usually fixes it. If nothing loads at all, try the other client (web or app) and clear the site data for character.ai before assuming an outage.

  6. Use the current site or app

    The old beta site was retired in 2024, so old bookmarks to it no longer work. Use character.ai or the official mobile app, and submit a ticket through the help center if a problem continues.

Why am I stuck in the Waiting Room?

Character.AI uses a Waiting Room to manage peak traffic so replies stay fast. Waits are usually short but can be longer during spikes. The site is working, just under heavy load.

Why can’t I log in with my password?

Character.AI no longer uses passwords. Sign in with Google, Apple or an emailed login link. If you’re still locked out, open a support ticket from the help center.

Why are replies slow on the free plan?

Free accounts can be slowed at busy times, and paid tiers reduce that. Slow replies alone don’t mean the service is down.
