If Runway isn’t working for you

When the live checks above look normal, the problem is usually on your side or limited to one feature. These are the fixes that help most often with Runway:

  1. Check the App or Public API component

    Runway’s status page lists App, Backend, Billing, Support and Public API separately. Runway’s help center tells users to check the App component first; developers should check Public API.

  2. A failed generation

    A generation error means the model couldn’t produce a usable result from your inputs, and credits spent are returned within a few minutes. Try again first; if it keeps failing, change the prompt, the reference image or the aspect ratio, or switch models.

  3. Usage policy block vs. real error

    Runway moderates both inputs and outputs. A usage policy error names the part of your input that was flagged, and support can’t override it. Change the input rather than resubmitting it — repeatedly retrying blocked content can get an account suspended.

  4. Explore Mode is slow or queued

    On Unlimited plans, Explore Mode generations can take longer to start at busy times, and only a limited number run at once. That’s expected, not an outage — switch to Credits Mode to generate right away.

  5. Browser, VPN or network problems

    Runway is built for Chrome and other Chromium browsers. Try an incognito window, clear the cache, turn off extensions and ad blockers, and disconnect from any VPN. If media won’t load for several people on the same network while the status page is clear, the network is probably blocking Runway’s domains.

  6. API: THROTTLED tasks and 429

    In the Runway API, a task with the status THROTTLED has been accepted but is waiting because you hit your concurrency limit; it will run in order. A 429 on task creation means your organization has reached its daily generation limit. Neither is an outage.

Is Runway down right now?

Check the App and Public API components on status.runwayml.com. This page combines the official status page, our own reachability checks every minute and user reports. If everything looks fine but your generation fails, the likely causes are your inputs, moderation, or your browser or network.

Do I get my credits back when a Runway generation fails?

Yes — when a generation fails, the credits come back within a few minutes. Some models charge the maximum possible cost first and refund the unused part, so a charge plus a refund in your history can mean the video finished.

Why is Explore Mode so slow?

Explore Mode capacity is shared across Unlimited subscribers, so start times depend on traffic and time of day. Credits Mode starts faster.

Why was my prompt or image blocked?

Runway’s automatic moderation checks inputs and outputs against its Usage Policy, and support can’t turn it off for specific accounts. If you think the block was a mistake, send feedback, then change your input before trying again.
