If Poe isn’t working for you

When the live checks above look normal, the problem is usually on your side or limited to one feature. These are the fixes that help most often with Poe:

  1. One bot failing vs. Poe being down

    Most Poe bots run on third-party model providers. If one bot errors while others still reply, the problem is probably that provider or that bot, not Poe. Switch to a similar bot and check the status page of the provider behind it.

  2. Out of compute points

    Each message costs points, and bots charge very different amounts. Free users get a daily allowance that doesn’t roll over. When your points run out the bot stops replying even though Poe is up — check your points history in Settings.

  3. Message held by your budget

    Poe asks for confirmation when a message would cost more than your per-message budget. That prompt isn’t an error; raise the budget in the chat settings or confirm the message.

  4. Check poe.com vs. api.poe.com

    Poe’s status page lists the consumer app (poe.com) and the developer API (api.poe.com) separately. A chat problem in the app points to the poe.com component; code calling the API should check api.poe.com.

  5. API error codes

    Poe’s OpenAI-compatible API returns 402 when your point balance runs out and 429 when you exceed the rate limit. 502 (upstream_error), 529 (overloaded_error) and 408 (timeout_error) suggest a problem with the model backend or Poe; a 403 points to moderation or permissions.

Is Poe down or just one bot?

If poe.com loads and other bots reply, Poe itself is up and the problem is with that bot or its model provider. This page combines the official status page, our own reachability checks every minute and user reports, so you can tell a Poe-wide outage from a single bot failing.

Why did Poe stop answering my messages?

The most common reason is running out of compute points. Free points reset daily and don’t roll over. Also check whether a per-message budget prompt is waiting for your confirmation.

Why does my bot seem to forget the conversation?

Poe’s automatic context management sends only the most recent part of a long chat to save points, and every model has a maximum context length. Turning that setting off sends more history, but each message costs more.
