If Stability AI isn’t working for you

When the live checks above look normal, the problem is usually on your side or limited to one feature. These are the fixes that help most often with Stability AI:

  1. Use the current status page

    Stability AI moved its status page to status.stability.ai; the old Instatus page now points there. The page covers the platform and services as a whole, so if it’s operational, look for the cause in your request or account.

  2. API 429: rate limit, not an outage

    The Stability Platform API allows 150 requests per 10 seconds. Go over it and you get HTTP 429 and a 60-second timeout, so add throttling and retry with backoff instead of treating a 429 as downtime.

  3. 403 or blurred images: the content filter

    Stability’s safety filter can block a generation or return a blurred image. Over the API a flagged request usually comes back as HTTP 403, and you’re not charged for blurred images. Rephrase the prompt, and report false positives through the support portal.

  4. Credits missing or used up

    Every API call uses credits, so check your balance on the platform’s account page. If credits seem to have vanished, you may have created separate accounts by signing in with different methods — sign in with the one you used originally.

  5. Stable Assistant uses its own credits

    Stable Assistant has its own credit system, separate from the Platform API. A problem in one doesn’t tell you anything about the other.

Is the Stability AI API down?

Check status.stability.ai first. This page combines the official status page, our own reachability checks every minute and user reports. If the platform shows as operational, a 429 means you hit the rate limit and a 403 usually means the content filter blocked the request.

What is the Stability AI API rate limit?

150 requests per 10 seconds. Going over it returns HTTP 429 and blocks you for 60 seconds, so queue and throttle your requests.

Why did I get a blurred image or a 403?

Stability AI’s content filtering either blurs an output or stops it being generated. You’re not charged for blurred images. A 403 from the API usually means moderation flagged the request, so change the prompt before retrying.
