If Gemini isn’t working for you

When the live checks above look normal, the problem is usually on your side or limited to one feature. These are the fixes that help most often with Gemini:

  1. “Something went wrong” errors

    Gemini often shows a generic “Something went wrong”, sometimes with a number in brackets. Reload the page or restart the app, start a new chat, and try again. If it keeps happening on several devices at once, check for a wider outage.

  2. Usage limits, not an outage

    Gemini Apps have usage limits that depend on the model and features you use and how long the chat is. Gemini tells you when your limit refreshes, so a limit message is not a sign the service is down.

  3. Work or school accounts

    With a work or school Google Account, Gemini only works if your plan includes it and your administrator has turned it on. A blocked or missing Gemini on these accounts is usually a settings or licence issue, not an outage.

  4. Check which Google account is active

    Sign out and back in, try a private window, and turn off extensions. If you’re signed in to several Google accounts, check which one is active in Gemini.

  5. Web vs. mobile app

    If gemini.google.com works but the app doesn’t, update the app and clear its cache. The mobile app is also available in fewer countries than the web app.

Google has no public status page for the consumer Gemini app. The Workspace dashboard lists Gemini for work and school accounts, and the Gemini API has its own page in AI Studio.

Is there an official Gemini status page?

Google has no separate public status page for the consumer Gemini app. The Google Workspace Status Dashboard lists a “Gemini” product, but it officially covers Workspace accounts. The Gemini API has its own status page in Google AI Studio. This page combines those official sources, our own reachability checks every minute and user reports.

Why does Gemini say I’ve hit a limit when it isn’t down?

Gemini Apps limits depend on the model, features and chat length. When you reach a limit, Gemini tells you when it refreshes.

Is Gemini available in my country?

The Gemini web app is available in most countries and many languages; the mobile apps cover fewer. If Gemini won’t load where you are, check Google’s availability page before assuming an outage.

The Gemini API is failing but the app works. Why?

The Gemini API and AI Studio run separately from the consumer app, and their status is on aistudio.google.com/status. Google recommends retrying 429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED and 503 UNAVAILABLE errors with exponential backoff, and not retrying client errors such as 400 or 403.
